Jao Mapa

Jao Mapa

Jao Mapa is a Filipino figurative expressionist whose paintings celebrate the richness of everyday life in the Philippines. His subjects range from taho vendors and jeepneys to harvest scenes, mother-and-child moments, and familiar neighborhood sights. With a keen eye for color and a playful approach to form, Jao captures these scenes in ways that feel both personal and universal. His use of bright, cheerful palettes invites viewers into a world that is warm, nostalgic, and easy to connect with. Many of his works evoke memories of childhood, community, or simple joys.

Jao holds a degree in Fine Arts majoring in Advertising from the University of Santo Tomas (2003). Though he first became known through his work in Philippine media, his deep passion for visual storytelling led him to pursue painting more seriously. His first major solo exhibition was held in 2012, and he has continued to exhibit in both solo and group shows since then.

He is currently a member of the ART VII Group and remains active in the local art community. Alongside his studio practice, Jao also teaches part-time at an international school where he shares his creative insight and encourages young learners to engage with the visual arts.
